Leadership
Monica Trevino was born and raised in McFarland California. In 1989 her family decided to come work at sugar beet hoeing and with the potato harvest in the fields of North Dakota. For four years she was a migrant worker going back and forth from Texas to North Dakota. She married Lupe Trevino and now has 3 children: two boys, Lupe and J.J., and one girl, Marissa. They have now lived in West Fargo, ND for 12 years. Monica has been with Mujeres Unidas for 7 years. Monica's vision for Mujeres Unidas is for the organization to grow more
Latino leaders within the community. She started out as the
Outreach director. Monica is pursuing a long time goal of getting an
education at Concordia College, Moorhead. She expresses her commitment to
Mujeres when she says, "Mujeres Unidas is the best job I
have ever had. They work to help each individual grow to better themselves
further, in personal and professional ways."
Jill Johnson-Danielson is originally from Anoka, Minnesota. She is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead and also attended Concordia College. She has been with Mujeres Unidas since 1994, first as executive director and now as co-director as the organization has grown. She believes in creating workplace structures which reflect the values of the constituents; this means flex time, job sharing, onsite childcare, and flexibility to get the work accomplished. She also believes in excellence and that people work best when they are free and supported to achieve greatness. Jill is an outsider artist who has exhibited locally for 15 years and most recently had her first commissioned piece. She teaches in many venues in the F-M area including Woman's Perspective Arts Series, Communiversity, Moorhead Adult Education, and the Hjemkomst Center Girl Culture exhibit lecture series. She is also a published poet. |
